Here where I live, when the autumn hits, it hits hard. If you want to salvage something from the garden, it must be done end of summer, and it’s early here.
There wasn’t much left, because we have eaten most.
Still rest of the herbs goes straight to the veggie dryer. I’m using those dried herbs at winter time, just like mushrooms.
Salad and herbs
There was not a huge amount of salad left, but the main idea with lettuce is to eat ‘em straight from the ground.
Onions and carrot got killed by the freezing summer week and those didn’t get to the plate of hungry family, shit happens, but when you’re gardening in the Arctic areas, it’s the risk what you have to take.
Garden cress
Garden cress delicious and rest of them I let to grown over. After growing over this plant gets very spicy, almost mustard like taste. That’s the main reason why I’m collecting these and after dryer it’s ready to use as Christmas, when I’m making home made mustard.
Christmas is only four months away, so it’s close…
Snow peas
Peas were tasty and this is only what’s left. Peas has been eaten at summer days and good for us. I had two different peas growing and they were both delicious. Definitely will grow on my garden at next summer.
100 kilograms of potatoes
How surprised I was about the amount of potatoes this year. Not even the freezing week at the middle of summer didn’t kill these. 100kg is the amount which I think is enough for the winter. Funny thing about these potatoes is that, I can name every sheep which have made this ground perfect for the potato grown. Organic food from your own ground, must say.
This gardening summer has been very difficult and different as normal. I have learned many things which I can use upcoming summers, It’s learning process I see.
Next summer will be different for many reasons, for the weather I can’t do anything but few things I can do better.
